IMPACT SOLUTION

The industry we belong to: I. HOSPITALITY, CATERING BUSINESS (gostinstvo)

We contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): SDG 3 - GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING (zdravje in dobro počutje), SDG 5 - GENDER EQUALITY (enakost spolov), SDG 11 - SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES (trajnostna mesta in skupnosti), SDG 12 - RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION (odgovorna poraba in proizvodnja)

Society challenge we tackle and our approach to solving it: Guest Camping is like Airbnb for camping an online marketplace that connects people who want to rent out their property (lawn, garden, forest, parking lot etc.) with people who are looking for camping in specific locations. Focus in on sharing economy and building sustainable community, where tourist want to explore and experience more of local culture.

1. Guest Camping targets problems of mass tourism that creates intense environmental pressures due to the fact that such activity involves a large number of tourists in small areas. Mass tourism can also cause significant social impacts. Gentrification, increases in crime, loss of culture and authenticity and cultural ignorance are just some of the ways that large amount of tourists in a given area can negatively effect the local society. Camping is sustainable activity and it could be a one way to form a close connection with Mother Nature and opportunity to learn more about the great outdoors.

2. To avoid mass tourism or also so called overtourism Guest Camping will offer more ecofriendly micro camping locations which will be spread all over the country. Campsites might be very popular in summer, but many are empty in winter so when camping with locals who offer to share their land with you, you help optimise the use of land that is already there and that would otherwise also just be empty. By sharing the goods and services with each other the sharing economy can help us all reduce our individual and our collective carbon footprint. Guest Camping will have high level of interaction between hosts guests as the campspace environments will be more intimate than large campsites.

We want to increase positive impact, including sustainability, social impact, inclusion in charity actions and changes of policies with our following activities:
3. Guest Camping is planning to cooperate with Slovenian Red Cross to find families who can’t afford to go on vacation so that we can find best private campsites for them on our platform on our cost.

4. Some municipalities have very restrictive rules whether camping on private land is allowed. In some cities they attentional ban RV camping because they don’t offer RV parking. In Slovenia it’s against the law to pitch a tent on agricultural land. All these problems could be solved by some change in policies, regulations or measure. Municipalities should allow everybody to offer camping on a private land in a way that they determine the periods when this is allowed (for example during the off-seson). RV parking or camping should be regulated in each cities and if they have no space for them they can turn to private land owners. Some agricultural land is durable enough to set up a micro eco camp, which would be very beneficial to the land and farmers would have additional income. That’s way farmers should express their interest in the eco camping to the Ministry of Agriculture.
